Been recently doing a lot of graphite work namely doing portraits for hire. Pays the bills (in theory) but more importantly I enjoy the connection I get when I capture and translate the essence of someone from the photo to illustration. It might even be from a bad photo but it is an image that none-the-less that speaks to heart of the person hiring me and more importantly entrusting me to render their love one faithfully…

Here is what I am charging right now for a HiREZ digitally enhanced image:

6 X 8 (approx.) head portrait with mat $500.00

TERMS:
50% of consignment balance upon email notification or physical delivery…

15% on images on all portrait delivered electronically to local Photo Studio/Printer of your choice.

Most portraits delivered with in 7 to 10 days of commission and or payment of deposit.

Great Art Show at The James Gray Gallery at Bergamot Station

On Friday the 20th i went to an art opening at the James Gray Gallery with my friend and fellow designer David Mellen to see the work of fellow artist and friend Thom Surman. Thom had a very good showing of approx. 30 works best described as atmospheric sky’s in abstract style. They are very calming to look at and you can find yourself getting lost in them. He had a great turn out and think he sold a few pieces in the $750 to $4,000 dollar range. The James Gray Gallery has an outstanding and diverse opening currently going on I encourage you to visit his site for more information on the other artist now showing. Bergamot Station is an eclectic mix of galleries that represent some of the top artist is California and from across the country and even the EU. Bergamot is a great place to take a date and enjoy some activity that is free and atypical of the usual romps one would normally consider… you might even impress your date into thinking you’re quite the cosmopolitan. Did I mention it is free… and many of the galleries serve drinks and snacks and some even a bit of Vodka and Cranberry for those of you who feel they need a little social lubrication. Here are I have posted a few recent sketches and studies for upcoming paintings. The Ron Pearlman piece, from Sons Of Anarchy, is an example of exploring a new look for a body of work I look forward to producing.

You’re looking at the new Chairperson of Entertainment for the 2010 Relay For Life the annual fund rasing event for the American Cancer Society. Not even sure what that is all about but my wife is in charge, literally, of the web site for the local chapter, and felt that this would something a great way to be of service and I like that, the being of service part.

I can already see these women are not only strong but kind and giving individuals, with specific ideas and concrete thinking into how we can make this years event even better than any year before.

The Entertainment Committee will be needing your help in order to create and make this 2010 Relay For Life entertainment the best yet. You’re invited to take part in something greater than yourself, to particpate and contribute to the lives of cancer survivors. Remember the greatest benefit in being of service comes when no one is looking and without expectation in return. The joy of giving is htat you don’t own until you give it away…
